Creating materials using Half Baked
Software

Do you like the quizzes? It is time to make your own. |
5. Open the URL http://web.uvic.ca/hrd/hotpot/ 6. Go through the tutorial. You do not have to read all the texts – as soon as you have the idea what HotPot software can do and how to work with it, continue to the following step. 7. Download HotPot for Windows into your computer. The server will give you all necessary instructions. 8. Start HotPot software and prepare a brief multiple choice quiz (JBC) on “chat acronyms” – you will use your stored file as a source of material. 9. You may include only three questions, as you are not registered. Later on, you will get your own password, when you => 10. Get a registration key (available from the homepage). 11. Store your quiz on your floppy twice: as *.jbc file and *.html
file (export to the web).

1. As soon as you get your password, use the Half Baked software for making your own online exercise: choose the topic, the type of test, write it and save in your LAN folder in both formats (.j?? + .html). |
2. Create a Word document called evaluation_author’s name.doc in your LAN folder. Anyone who will try your test will write their evaluation there. |
3. Try at least 3 tests made by your classmates; note your results and in the files evaluation_author’s name.doc, made in Word, write a very brief evaluation of the tests you did. |
4. Search the web for more sites offering on-line ELT quizzes.
Choose one, explore it thoroughly and write a brief description and evaluation
of the site, including:
Maximum length (to be checked by the command Nástroje => počet slov, or Alt+F12) is 200 words. You will name this file quiz_sites_author’s name.doc and save it into your LAN personal folder. |
5. Read at least 3 sites’ evaluations, saved in your mates’ folders, and explore the described sites yourself. Contact the author of the evaluation if your experience differs! |
