Since February of this year I have got Ka-4 Rhönlerche II. This glider have nice red and white surface and had flown obout 14 hours after overhoul on '91. In Czech republic are only two way, haw we could legal fly with this and simular foreign gliders.
The first is to take engine to this glider and we make Ultralight Aircraft. For it "UL inspectors" rise up MTOW from 400kg (by producer A. Schleicher) to 450kg without any cosultations with producer an atc. The second way is rise down MTOW to 370kg and use category Ultralight Glider. In others countries is the only one way - normal glider, but Czech lows and rules don't left in!
Because I'm inspector for Ultralight Gliders and glider lover and I haven't like powering of this gliders, I used the second way. I together with ing. Jan Havlín from Czech Aeroclub head office imatricuated it as a Ultralight Glider. We rose down MTOW from 400kg to 370kg (limit for double seats UL gliters). The Ka-4 got Czech number OK-A201.
On 13. april Jiří Leník made first fly with this Rhönlerche. This Ka-4 is the first and single Ka-4 in Czech republic and the first foreign OldTimer in our country.
