History and family tree outlines of Jakub Plesak and his family

from Mezna, Bozejov parish, Pelhrimov district, Bohemia, arrived in Waukechon, Shawano Cty, Wisconsin 1869

The following Plesak´s and Tomasu´s sailed to America and settled in Shawano, Wisconsin. In the moment of entering US territory a person "Tomasu" was renamed to "Tomashek" and another person "Plesak" was renamed to "Pleshek". Without a doubt it was both a lingual barrier and a low literacy of both immigrants and immigration officers which caused such name distortions.

In Shawano there are still Pleshek´s who still farm the land today and live in the original Pleshek Homestead. In my research I ran across many Plesheks' in the state of Wisconsin and I think  all of them can be connected to this Plesak/Pleshek line.  This line has not any connection to another Plesek/Pleshek line with Plesek´s and Pleshek´s living in Ohio, Michigan, California, Colorado and elsewhere within the U.S.A.

There are more than 96,000 variations of Czech surnames. If were taken into consideration, that the whole Czech Republic has 10 million inhabitants, it would mean, that in case of the equal distribution, some 100 inhabitants incl. children would account for one specific surname. But the situation is in fact different . Some surnames are more or less common, some (and they have majority) are rare and are connected only with few families. First twenty frequent surnames cover about 7 per cent of total population. First fourty frequent surnames account already 10 per cent and first 100 surnames belong to 17 per cent of all Czech population.
In accordance to the official records there are altogether 74 male and 88 female Plesakc.gif (925 bytes) living within the whole Czech Republic nowadays and Plesakc.gif (925 bytes) name is the 10745st in the order of occurence.
