THE NINTH REVIEW OF CZECH DOCUMENTARIES and ANIMATION
is being organized by FITES (Czech Film and Television Association). The review
has been made possible by a grant from Czech television, Ministry of Culture,
Magistrate of the city of Písek and generous assistance from cinema PORTYČ in
Písek. Further offers of sponsorship are welcome.
The review is showcasing innovative, both in form and content, documentary works
shot on film or video. Its aim is to attract the professionals as well as the
interested public.
It is hoped the review would provide a platform where programme makers,
technicians, film students and teachers can discuss media issues amongst
themselves and with the viewers. A diverse seminar programme is to be organised
and press conferences scheduled. The review is open to everyone. FITES members
have free access to all festival events.
The Review of Czech Documentaries and Animation is not run on a competition
basis. Documentaries will be shown in programme blocs. Ideally, two hours to be
devoted to screening, the last one reserved for discussions. The organiser is
going to reserve one programme block for Slovak films and videos.
There will be a programme bloc reserved for independent producers, its
composition will be coordinated by the review organiser. However, private
screenings can be arranged on request. The parallel projections will take place
on the local circuit of the "club".
It is hoped that the review will attract participants from Europe, North America
and further afield and will lead to cooperation in funding and production.
Representatives of European broadcasters, film companies and organisers of other
documentary and short film festivals have been invited to attend over Písek
showcase.
