Beginning of the scientific interest in the castle theatre in Litomyšl reach to the 1950's, when J. Hilmera surveyed his research joined with research of the archival materials. According to the article in “Zprávy památkové péče” 3-4/1957, which summarized results of the research and repairs, the decorations in the castle theatre were documented and described above all, definitely ratified their authorship (Joseph Platzer) and the theatre's repair and wiring were realized.
Sconces on the pillars among the boxes and the lighting bar were electrified. lime lights for illuminating the stage were placed into the side boxes, which are the nearest of the stage. Damaged neoclassicism decorative painting of the auditorium was conservated; restorer Helena Zezulová was entrusted with restoring of this painting and decoration of the Gothic hall, which was fixed placed on the stage.
The photographies of the decoration were carried out. The documentation of the castle theatre by itself was unfortunately restricted just to the front view of the stage and the view of the auditorium. Whatever views of the stage machinery are missing, even the mention about fixation of the decoration on the stage and curtain (number of back drops and probably two sets of suffitas had been steady hanged over the stage until this time - it is proved by some photos made before World War I).
The next back drops were restored step by step in next decades. The back drops of the Blue “ancient” hall, the Yellow room and the Burger's room were restored in 1967, the back drops of the Prison and the Church were restored just one year later, at the 1970's the curtain, the Armorer's house and the Parlor were restored. Most of the restored decorations were fixed onto a new canvas. The notifications of the restorers are short-spoken according to the contemporary routine; mentions about removing ringlets, which help to rising the decorations, strengthening ledges, which were fastened on the point of the crease underside at more difficult decorations (they have been preserved at the scene the rock face, which haven't been restored, or at the Beach scene) are missing information, even mention about handwriting tablets from the period of the inventory among the years 1825-1828. The backdrop of the Wood scene (alias the Garden scene) and the Garden side scenes, restored in 1993, have been the last of the restored decorations so far. It hasn't occurred to planed and needed preservation of the others side scenes and suffitas since today.
In 1971 the measuring documentation of theatre interiors was made for SÚPPOP Praha (the plans are today stored in the SÚPPOP collection of plans).
In 1971 the project of tailored frame hitch for the decorations was worked up. It should make possible presentation of all decorations for audience and it should be placed in so-called cloakroom (where the decorations were deposited at that time; today's the Congress hall). It should be used for the exhibition of all of backdrops in terms of planed separated visitor route. This visitor route should included, except the castle theatre and the hall with decorations, the entrance hall with the exposition of history theatre culture in Litomyšl. This project wasn't realized indeed.
Among the years 1973-1974 the next repair of the painting of the auditorium was made by ÚUŘ Brno. Overpaintings from some parts of constructions (someone probably from the 19th century), later overlays of e.g. railings of the staircases and the parapet above all, which had divided back side of the auditorium, were removed (according to fragmentary control reports the parapet had been placed here additionally). The painting of the auditorium's ground floor was completely reconstructed. The benches in the auditorium, which obtained today's red imitating leather coating, were repaired too. Perhaps in occasion of this repair the metal brackets with bulbs, which have illuminated the stage till this time, were placed among the side scenes.
In 1996 the painting of the portal's top part was restored, which fell off probably because of climatic conditions in the theatre. Nowadays it's possible to say that this repair has missed the mark.
At the present time the Association Milislav warns that the repair of painting and equipment of the theatre is very important. According to our statement it's necessary to monitor the climatic conditions in the castle theatre in connection with visitors tours, conditions of the painting and wooden constructions.
