HEROLD QUARTET
Petr Zdvihal ( violin ) - was born in 1973 in Pardubice, he comes from a musical family. His father has played the first fiddle in the Chamber Philharmony of Pardubice and his mother is a violin tutor at The Elementary art school in Pardubice. Petr Zdvihal started to play violin when he was six. He graduated from The Conservatory in Pardubice with VladimírKulík. In 1998 he finished his studies at The Academy of Music with professor Václav Snítil. While he was at the Academy he took part in a number of violin competitions. He has been awarded several prizes in The Kocián violin competition many times and in 1991 he won the first prize there. In the same year he alco got the prize for the best performance of Beethovens composition at the competition in Hradec nad Moravicí. He attended the master classes with professor Albert Lys in Switzerland. He often gives concerts with outstanding orchestras both in the Czech Republic and in abroad (Pardubice Chamber Philharmony, Hradec Králové Chamber Philharmony, Janáček Philharmony of Ostrava, Southbohemian Phillharmony, Neues Rheinisches Orchester and with many others).
Jan Valta ( violin ) - was born in 1977 in Prague. He studied at The Teplice Conservatory by the professor Jiřina Dlouhá. In 1991 he won the first prize in the Slovak competition of the chamber ensembles as a member of a piano trio. In 1996 he became a laureate of national competition of conservatories in The Czech Republic. He was a member of Czech Philharmony between the 1997 and 1998. In these days he is a student of The Academy of Music in Prague by Jindřich Pazdera.
Karel Untermüller ( viola ) - was born in 1972 in Brandýs nad Labem. He started to play violin when he was six, first with his father and later at The elementary school in Brandýs nad Labem. In 1993 he graduated from The Prague Conservatory with professor Jaroslav Ruis. He continued with his studies at The Academy of Music in Prague with Lubomír Malý. In 1997 he has graduated from The Academy performing of Béla Bartók Concert for viola accompanied by Hradec Králové Philharmony. During his studies he devoted himself to chamber music and became a member of The Jupiter Quartet, later a member of The Herold Quartet and also a member of The Suk Chamber Orchestra. Besides chamber music he also plays as a soloist accompanied by The Suk Chamber Orchestra. Besides chmaber music he also plays as a soloist accompanied by The Suk Chamber Orchestra, Westbohemian Philharmony and Chamber Orchestra in Pardubice and Plzeň.
David Havelík ( violoncello ) - was born in 1972 in Prague. He started to play cello when he was nine. In 1988 he won the first prize in the state competition Concertino Praga and two years later he got the second prize in the Beethoven competition in Hradec nad Moravicí. During his studies at The Conservatory, he attended several master classes (for e. g. in 1992 in Bonn with professor Julius Bayer). In 1993 he passed the entrance exam to The Academy of Music in Prague, from where he graduated with professor Josef Chuchro. He finished his studies performing of Joseph Haydn Concert C major with orchestra. During his studies David started to specialise in chamber music. He was a member of the Jupiter Quartet from 1990 and in these days he is member of the Herold Quartet.
