This is the history of the band as it is known:

At the age of 16 Jon and David became friends and formed a band called Atlentic City Expressway. They made a song called Runaway which became a local radio hit.
David's mother payed them the plane tickets to fly to L.A. so they could try to get a record deal. After few days spent by offering their band to the major record companies, they had to come back with no succes. But soon after a record deal was offered to them by Polygram in N.Y.. Alec and Tico joyned the band and also Dave Sabo ( later guitarist in Skid Row). It's said that when the band was playing a gig for a radiostation a young man came to Jon after the show and said: Hi, I'm gonna be your guitarist. Jon only laughed, but when he heared the man play, he immediately offered him the job. The mystery man was Richie. ( I don't know if it's true but it's a nice story).
The band had many names ( The Wild Ones is one of them) and finally they decided to call it Bon Jovi (the record company changed Jon's name this way so it would be easier to pronounce).
They made a first album in January 1984 ( Bon Jovi) followed by 7800 Fahrenheit in april 1985. Each of the albums sold more than 1 million copies worldwide. The band was touring as a support for such bands as Scorpions, Judas Priest, Kiss , ZZ top and even played on a famous rock festival in Donington.
The third album Slippery When Wet was released in august 1986 (13 million sold) and became a great succes. Bon Jovi were on the covers of the magazines all over the world and that's the time when Jon became a teenage idol.
In september 1988 New Jersey is released ( 9 million sold) and as always followed by a world tour. A long and tireing tour (it's documented on the videotape Access All Areas) which almost caused the break up of the band. ( In my opinion it was fault of the former manager who was trying to rip the skin of the boys to make more money). In august 1989 they played on the Moscow Music Peace festival together with Skid Row, Cinderella, Motley Crue, Scorpions etc. It was a very touching moment when Jon walked through the audience to the stage and especially when they played Wanted Dead Or Alive in front of thousands of people who never experienced the rock concert before. ( almost all of them).
At the time after, the fans all over the world were hurted with speculations in the press about the band's break up. They were confused and didn't know what to believe.
During the pause, Jon made the soundtrack album Young Guns II., started his own record label Jambco and co-operated with other artists ( Aldo Nova, Elton John, Stevie Nicks etc.)
Richie had his solo album Stranger In This Town released and went on a short tour.
David wrote music to the movie Netherworld.
Jon also took off on a cross-country motorcycle trip.
Finally the hearts of the fans stoped bleeding when they heared of a concert in Tokyo on New Year's eve 1991. That ment the band is back together again.
In November 1992 when Keep The Faith was released we could be shure that boys are back in town. But unfortunatelly there's one thing missing, Jon's hair. Also the image of the band became more modern, but still it was easy to recognise it's Bon Jovi.
The tour was following as usual and as always it was great.
Soon after in 1994 there's a greatest hits album Crossroad with two new singles Always and Someday I'll Be saturday Night ( the last video where Alec is playing). Again it was a big succes. Alec definetely leaves the band saying he's too old for the rock'n roll circus. But his reasons remain a mystery. For the diehard fans he's still the member though.
Some times at that era Bon Jovi also made a single to the film Cowboy Way that's called Good Guys Don't Always Wear White. The video to this song was played on the music televisions.
And also another song to a film was made, it's called Real Life and you could see the video on TV in the middle 90's.
In june 1995 the album These Days (15 million sold) saw the light of the world, very long and very good album. And not so long but still very good tour started. Speaking of length, Richie cut his hair at that time for some stupid reason and unfortunatelly doesn't let them grow again . So since that we don't say :till the hell will get frozen, but :till Richie will grow his hair long again, which both means ... it will never happen.
The fans thought ( and the press was sure) that this album and tour was the last in Bon Jovi history. But the boys played a good joke on us again and surprised us with a brand new and very different album named Crush in the year 2000. The album was very fashionable and not typical for the band and some fans from the old times don't like it at all. But it also brought the band many new young fans.
And now, and now I have the pleasure.... to let you know that the new album is on it's way again and according to the single Everyday it's gonna be hell of a good rock 'n roll album.

Bon Jovi now are very respected musicians and the members were asked to play on other artists albums.
Here are some of them:
Jon helped to - Eddie Murphy, Aldo Nova, Billy Falcon, Stevie Nicks, Hall & Oates, Paul Dean, Alice Cooper, Cinderella, Ted Nuget etc.
Richie helped to - Cher, Bo Didley, Steve Wariner, Eddie Murphy, Alice Cooper, Cinderella, Pink, Bad Company, Rockhead, etc.
