In the first half of the 20th century amateur actors from Litomyšl performed in the castle theatre again - specially among the years 1900-1904, before the opening of the Smetana's House Theatre, after which only incidental performances were held; the last statement of amateurs performances is from the year 1822, which is mentioned on the illuminant brackets.
In the 1920's the castle theatre was used for all sorts of celebration as well as other parts of the castle - e. g. the ceremonial concert for the honor of Bedřich Smetana was taken place here in 1934.
The German army used the castle in the period of the World War II; it is possible to suppose, that the performance were staged here in this period, mainly according amount of the small things (above all smoker's requisites) from this time under the stage. In the Summer of 1945 German prisoners of war were kept in the theatre. The rumor spread that during this period the equipment of the theatre was destroyed.
In 1956 the research was carried out which proved that the theatre equipment was relatively well preserved, and it was decided to repair it and open the theatre to the public. The exposition of the castle theatre was installed in the corridor next to the theatre, which included models of the theatre with particular stage sets as well as the reproduction of archival material summarizing history of the castle theatre. These models were made with the help of photographs of the decorations.
In 1971 non-realized project of tailored frame hitch for decorations was worked up. It should make possible presentation of all decorations. The retrieval of the castle theatre together with surrounding spaces as a separate visitor route was in this project too.
The next theatre repair was carried out among the years 1973 - 1974. From 1975 until 1989 the theatre wasn't part of the castle's tour, which it became again in 1990. Probably in the 1980's the exposition in the corridor was removed; the models of the theatre were situated on the stage apron for a while.
In the last quarter of the 20th century the castle theatre was used cultural and actions of all sorts - besides performances and concerts, e.g. for ceremonious festivities of schools (hangover of reports). Filming have been common in the theatre - mainly historic films.
In 1993 the copies of the side wings of French garden's scenes and backdrop of the scene of Wood were made by students and pedagogues of the Litomyšl School of restoration and conservation techniques. These copies have been installed on the stage and they have been presented as the scene of the French garden (the backdrop of the French Garden was destroyed). Stylized scene of the rococo parlor was made on occasion of BBC filming in 1997. In spite of this scene doesn't come up to the kind of Platzer's decorations, it is installed permanently on the stage and presented visitors of the castle.
On the occasion of the two hundredth anniversary of the first performance in the castle theatre, on 23rd April 1998, the Milislav company from Litomyšl (established for this occasion) performed the same play that was performed on the theatre's - Ziegler's “The Lover and the Rival in One”, in the translation of Prokop Šedivý and in modern arrangement. This performance, which was repeated successfully on many occasions, was performed using scenery Armoreur's house. Preparing of this performance woke interest in the castle theatre of a group of amateur actors. Its actual results are finished works in the theatre so far, the foundation of the Milislav Association and the creation of these web pages.
Today the theatre is used on the special occasions, especially for chamber concerts and performances. Other activities, which are not suitable for this unique monument, are gradually being phased out. If it will be possible to put the original technical equipment back into action, the Litomyšl castle theatre could become one of the few places where the authentic theatre productions can be held.
